What is Osteopathy?

Manual osteopathy is a whole body approach to healthcare using a gentle “hands-on” technique to identify the root cause of the problem and restore balance to all of the body systems.

Manual Osteopath facilitates the inner wisdom of the body to heal and regulate itself. We are all hard-wired for absolute health!

“An Osteopath is only a human engineer, who should understand all laws governing his engine and thereby master disease.”

Dr. Andrew Taylor Still

The structure of the musculoskeletal system is vital to the proper function of all the body’s systems.

Internally there is a continuity of the body from one end to the other via fascia or connective tissue, therefore tension in one area of the body can affect a different area.

The optimum flow of fluids in the tissues (blood and lymph) is critical to good health. When blood and lymph flow freely, the tissues (muscles, nerves, fascia etc.) work as they should.

All structures have to move in harmony with each other to achieve wholeness and overall health.

“Disease is often a result of mechanical obstruction to normal flow of fluids and nerve activity.
The rule of the artery is absolute, universal, and it must be unobstructed, or disease will result.”

Dr. Andrew Taylor Still

The spectrum of manual osteopathic treatments involves everything from prevention of future injuries to addressing advanced pain and dysfunction in the body, choosing from various techniques such as;

  • Osteoarticular mobilization
  • Muscle energy techniques
  • Soft tissue therapy
  • Cranial techniques
  • Visceral techniques

Symptoms do not appear until the body’s ability to compensate has been fully exhausted.  When we can no longer compensate from all of our stresses, that is when symptoms of pain and discomfort start to present themselves. Manual Osteopathy can help;

  • Reduce pain and stiffness
  • Decrease inflammation
  • Improve mobility of joints
  • Enhance blood supply to tissues
  • Improve proper structure
  • Evoke body’s innate ability to heal itself

“Remove all obstructions, and when it is intelligently done, nature will kindly do the rest.”
